This one thing will instantly level up any of you in business overnight...
As I mentioned in a previous post, just a few years ago, I was merely more than a "FB ad guy". Within a very short period of time, I have gone on to begin rubbing shoulders with some of the top business people in the country, and having meetings with massive companies to do business with them.
This was all made possible by my advisory board. Something Dan Pena taught me was to perform at a world class level, you need a world class team.
And, believe it or not, putting together such a team can be a breeze. We can talk talk about that on another day.
All you need is a vision and some enthusiasm, and there is a queue of seasoned business veterans at or near retirement who are aching to live vicariously through a young, hungry entrepreneur like yourself.
Our board of advisors currently has a Chair (global M&A director at a multinational conglomerate based out of Europe), one of the top lawyers in the country (every room we walk into that has legal people in it know who he is), a top accountant, and two industry experts - one of which has ties in government.
I didn't know any of these people before I started this holding company, and they didn't know me. I simply sent them a LinkedIn message, shared my vision, and invited them along for the ride (for small amounts of equity in the company).
Now I effectively have a world class team of mentors guiding me on my journey.
If you want to skip levels in business, you need to do the same. Don't be afraid to give a piece of the business up. If you have an already existing business that you own, and don't want to give up shares in that, that's totally fine - there are ways to structure it so they only participate in the upside they bring to the table.
Ask your board lawyer about how to do that ;)
